ISWO December Message

International Social Work Organization

With the events of 2020, it is important now more than ever to connect with others for support. This is the goal of the University of Maryland’s International Social Work Organization (ISWO): to create a safe space for students interested in international work to connect, no matter which school they attend. Our focuses include interprofessional collaboration, education about international issues, and sharing ways to get involved in international work. We frequently invite professionals to our meetings as speakers on international topics and working abroad.

ISWO has ties with a variety of organizations including the Student Global Advisory Committee (SGAC). Examples of this year’s events are a Global Meet-Up on November 30th with students from around the world discussing their approach and their school’s approach to learning in the COVID-19 pandemic, and a Menstrual Justice event in the Spring of 2021 with two guest speakers. Social Work students are encouraged to attend ISWO’s monthly meetings as well as to joint events. Please email the organization’s co-leaders, Anna Thompson and Sheila Winter, at ISWO@ssw.umaryland.edu for more information!
